December 1, 2006- Dr. Kathleen Reardon offers free art lessons to wounded or traumatized soldiers and Marines through her website. Her niece and nephew are Naval Academy graduates and her nephew-in-law is a West Point graduate and has served two tours in Iraq. Dr. Reardon, who has Parkinson's Disease and is a cancer survivor, discovered what the brain can do to cope with challenges, and writes that the brain appears to insist on doing something creative if given a chance. November 12, 2006- Washington, D.C. -- The Race and Walk had a great turn-out even though the conditions were not ideal. Karen Theobald Conlin points out that it is perfect weather because our troops have to endure all conditions when they serve.

October 4, 2006 -- Andrews Air Force Base, Virginia-- HOHF hosted its first golf tournament for our wounded servicemen. Joined by Honorary Host R. James Nicholson, everything went as well as we could have hoped, and we are starting to think of another golf tournament next year. [more]
June 24, 2006 - Washington, D.C. -- The California State Society hosted the Helping Our Heroes Foundation at the annual Picnic on the Potomac on Saturday, June 24. Soldiers currently recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center enjoyed a sunny day full of games and delicious California food and wine. One California veteran, who had just been discharged from Walter Reed, stopped by the picnic before leaving Washington to drive across the country back to his family in Visalia, CA. Several soldiers helped to draw raffle tickets and award raffle prizes. The soldiers were recognized for their service and sacrifice with a standing ovation from over 250 Californians who attended the picnic.
April 27, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- HOHF hosted a breakfast for Congressional staff and Members of Congress to inform them of our efforts assisting military wounded and their families. May 22, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The California State Society (CSS) D.C. chapter recently hosted their annual Oscars party in the historic Mellon Auditorium and raised $5,000 through a silent auction which they donated to the Helping our Heroes Foundation. Twenty-two wounded veterans who are currently recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center were recognized for their service and sacrifice and given the royal treatment at the CSS gala. [more]
March 8, 2006 - Arlington, VA -- The Arlington County Young Republicans hosted a happy hour fundraiser in honor of the Helping Our Heroes Foundation at Sine Irish Pub and celebrated St. Patrick's Day early. Around 75 people attended, many of whom were brand new to HOHF. Sine patrons unaware of the event were eager to donate and followed the signs to the reserved bar. Sine's management and staff were very accomodating, donating bar space and offering food and drink specials for the event. The evening would not have been possible without Kerry Finnegan, social chair for the ACYRs. Her efforts netted over $700 for HOHF to support wounded soldiers and their families.
Feb 2, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- One of our friends, Sgt. Wasim Khan,
attended the State of the Union address this week as a guest of the Secretary
of the Army and sat with the First Lady. Sgt. Khan is recovering

May 31, 2005 - WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Helping Our Heroes Foundation and
the 2005 Industrial College of the Armed Forces Student Body opened the doors
to the new "Life Strategies Library" at Walter Reed Army Medical
Center in May. The library is the ICAF 2005 class gift and was presented
in cooperation with the Helping Our Heroes Foundation. Library materials
are specifically targeted for those who have sustained life altering injuries
in the current conflicts in the Middle East. There are items about succeeding
professionally for those with disabilities, preparing resumes, succeeding
at interviews, resume paper, journals to track personal contacts, and

very special Black Tie dinner was held at the Mandarin Oriental,
Co-Hosted by Chairman Duncan Hunter & Chairman Bill Young along with
Industry-Host Dr. Ronald D. Sugar, Chairman, CEO, and President of Northrop
Grumman Corporation.
Over 95% of all donations go
directly towards support for military families of all services;
primarily family members of the brave soldiers, sailors and marines who
have been injured while deployed. A majority of the proceeds from the
dinner benefit the Armed Forces Foundation, with proceeds
also going to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and the Helping
Our Heroes Foundation.

Airways has generously agreed to work with HOHF in donating air travel
for soldiers wounded in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi

Feb. 13, 2005 - WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Foundation hosted a thank
you dinner for the families of those medical personnel deployed from Walter
Reed Army Medical Center to Iraq. Their loved ones provide the important
support that keeps our men and women in uniform alive when injured on
the battlefield.
Feb. 1, 2005 - WASHINGTON D.C. -- Several wounded soldiers brought
to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for treatment were
without warm clothing. The Foundation purchased coats and clothing items
to help keep them warm this winter. The Foundation has also been providing
emergency funding to assist soldiers and their families with housing,
bills, and travel.
Feb. 1, 2005 - WASHINGTON D.C. -- For the 2005 inaugural events,
the Foundation rented a mini bus and brought 26 people from Walter Reed
(patients, family members, and volunteers to assist) to the Pennsylvania
Gala at the Smithsonian Institute and the Hard Rock Cafe party following.
The Foundation provided for the cost of the tickets and, in cases of need,
outfitted the soldiers and their guests so they could attend as the evening's
heroes. While tiring, a great time was had by all.
Jan. 20, 2005 - BAGHDAD, IRAQ -- The Foundation has shipped over
900 stuffed animals, clothing, books and DVDs to the hospitals in Iraq
that our Army doctors are running. The toys have gone to injured children,
and the clothing is for our injured soldiers and Marines.
A military nurse wrote to us that one soldier started crying when he received
the DVDs because he was so touched people at home were thinking of him.
Jan. 20, 2005 - BAGHDAD, IRAQ -- HOHF recently purchased and shipped
furniture to outfit a lounge in one of the combat support hospitals in
Baghdad, Iraq where skilled military doctors treat battle wounded Coalition
soldiers and Iraqis. Their important work keeps our soldiers alive. We
purchased a couch, reading lamps, rocking chairs, a book case and coffee
makers for the new rec space.

Mologne House and brought to me at the Capitol Hill Club, a private club

Fran O'Brien's Stadium Steakhouse in the Capital Hilton here on Friday
nights for a year now, but this week was different. On Oct. 15, a group
of injured servicemembers from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the
National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Md., were joined by family
and friends to be recognized by dignitaries, veterans service organizations

October 2004 - WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Capital Chapter of Women in Defense
has begun to include volunteer opportunities as a major part of the chapter's
activities. Chapter President Kelli Short-Tomasulo, of the PMA Group,
explained that one of her goals when she became president in April was
to have the chapter become more involved in the community. “With
so many active-duty military being sent to the Washington, DC, area after
being injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, I believed it was important for
the Capital Chapter to show our support of the military,” said Short-Tomasulo.
